Caroline Wozniacki‘s Adidas by Stella McCartney dress turned out to be out of the most photogenic outfits at the Australian Open, even though it still reminds some tennis fans of their grandmother’s curtains or table cloths, but no extraordinary dress could save Wozniacki from determined Garbine Muguruza in the third round and the Dane waved goodbye after a 4-6 7-5 6-3 defeat.
The Spaniard born in Caracas, Venezuela, has had a superb start to the season with a quarterfinal run in Auckland, then her first WTA title in Hobart, just ahead of the Australian Open, and now an entry into her first second week of a Grand Slam. Muguruza overcame her nerves and after squeezing through the second set she kept the momentum and took out the tenth seed.
In the fourth round Muguruza will face fifth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, who won nine straight games to overcome a deficit of a set and 2-0 to get past Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 5-7 6-2 6-2.
Two-time defending champion Victoria Azarenka had absolutely no trouble in dispatching Yvonne Meusburger 6-1 6-0 in the third round.
Oh Caro…. Sigh.
Well at least it’s nice to see Muguruza do so well. And let’s not forget she’s only 20! I mean she could still achieve a lot. I hope she wins Aga, would be amazing to see her in the quarters.
I’m excited for the Vika versus Sloane match as it could be a great one(on the other hand it could also disappoint). But I have fairly high hopes for Sloane since it is GS after all, and we all know she truly comes alive in them.
Oh Caro… Sigh. :-(((( Same story as the US Open with her loss against Giorgi. She should not lose those matches. She had multiple break points in the second at 4-4 and 5-5. It’s so disappointing and frustrating.
