Caroline Wozniacki, who has recently celebrated her 24th birthday, is the top seed at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, the tournament which resurfaced after the three-year staging of the WTA Championships in the city had ended, and the Dane made the semifinals on Friday, with a 6-1 3-6 6-2 victory over eighth seed Karolina Pliskova. In her previous match, Wozniacki battled to a 4-6 6-2 6-1 win over Karin Knapp, while in the first round she needed just 44 minutes to take out Belinda Bencic.

Besides enjoying progress at the tournament, Wozniacki is also making the most of her time off. Yesterday she was shopping, eating, sightseeing, having a pedicure and going to the cinema, while her top experience was strolling the streets of Istanbul in high heels. Why was it such a special feeling? Because she had avoided wearing heels during her relationship with Rory McIlroy, due to him being shorter than her. Now Caro is a free woman! 🙂 Rory is, by the way, rumored to be dating Irish model Nadia Forde.

Out and about in Istanbul. It’s been 3 years since I have worn heels on a normal day out. #feelsgood… – Caro posted on Twitter.

In the semifinals, Wozniacki will face Kristina Mladenovic, while the other semifinal pair features second seed Roberta Vinci and Ana Konjuh.

At the other WTA event taking place this week, the Collector Swedish Open, Jana Cepelova will play Chanelle Scheepers and Mona Barthel will play Silvia Soler-Espinosa in the semifinals. The tournament’s top seed, Alize Cornet, was ousted in the first round already, by qualifier Anett Kontaveit.

  1. If Caro wants to look after her back, spine and feet, which I thought would be very important for a tennis player, then I’m surpised that she would wear heels when walking around a city. Special occasions yes, but long walks – madness!
