Plenty of sunshine blessed the Uniprix Stadium on Sunday as the second day of qualifying at the Rogers Cup got underway.
Just like the two days before, the spectators came in masses and got to watch some spectacular tennis action on the various courts.
Among the two busiest women on site were Coco Vandeweghe & Monica Puig, both players had to play two matches within a few hours due to a scheduling change yesterday.
The added court-time did not stand in the way of their success as both players won both of their matches, making the 2014 Rogers Cup main draw.
Joining the busy two players are Shelby Rogers, Lauren Davis, Tamria Bacsinszky, Tereza Smitkova, Karin Knapp, Heather Watson, Yanina Wickmayer, Monica Puig, Yulia Putintsvea & Stephanie Dubois complete the 2014 Rogers Cup main draw.
While the qualifiers were busy fighting their way into the main draw, the world’s elite players faced a day full of practicing and media obligations, giving both the press and the fans a chance to get close to the sport’s most popular players.
One practice session in particular raised some eyebrows as Victoria Azarenka looked less than happy during her stint on the Center Court. Cutting her practice session short, Azarenka was seen fiddling with her left thigh while talking to a concerned-looking Sam Sumyk.
The Belarussian former world #1 has been fighting various injuries for more than a year now and by the looks of it, Azarenka is still not in proper shape this week. Luckily, Azarenka and most other top players get to enjoy an off-day tomorrow as the Rogers Cup main draw gets underway!
Keep checking back for all the latest coverage from the Uniprix Stadium all week!
My favorite photo from this set is Sharapova’s stretch on serve! I’ve shared several of my favorite shots on my Pinterest “WTA Action Shots” board 😉 http://www.pinterest.com/womenstennis/wta-action-shots/
Great job, Jimmie48!
And thank you for the update on Azarenka!
