Tatjana Maria has a super cute chubby baby girl and now the 27-year-old has recorded what she calls the “best win she’s ever had”, upsetting Eugenie Bouchard 6-0 7-6(4) in the second round of the Miami Open. The world No.113 Maria, who used to be Malek before marrying her coach in April 2013, is now projected to return to the Top 100.
After giving birth to little Charlotte in December 2013, Maria rejoined the WTA circuit in Bogota in April the following year, and has recorded four ITF titles in singles and even more doubles titles ever since. Today against the sixth-seeded Bouchard, the underdog stormed through the first set in half an hour and stayed strong when 5-3 down in the second set. Maria’s previous Top 10 win came five years ago against then world No.10 Li Na.
Next up for qualifier Maria at the Miami Open is another young gun, Belinda Bencic.
Tatjana is playing well lately. I think she can go far in Miami. I’m not surprised she beat Genie who just came from injury. She has a good shot against Bencic, who is still raw but very talented player too.
PS: I really admire her for balancing her family life and career in the WTA circuit. Cute baby too! 🙂
Emman Damian, oh well, she lost to Bencic 6-4 7-5. Hopefully this Bouchard upset is just the first in a series of big wins for Maria.
Yeah. It was unfortunate she can’t back up that big win but I know it was a great confidence booster for her. Belinda is also playing really well lately.
Emman Damian, for sure it’s a confidence booster. I will definitely pay more attention to her tournament appearances from now on.
Great example that you can be successful tennis player and great mom. So important in modern days
