All seeds crash out on Wednesday in Dubai

In an almost unprecedented turn of events, all eight seeded players at the 2016 Dubai International Tennis Championships failed to make the event’s quarterfinal stage.

None of the eight seeds even managed to win a single match on Dubai soil, making this the first time such an occurrence happened at the WTA Premier level.

The rather remarkable day in Dubai was made even more crazy by the fact that play was interrupted for more than three hours after a fierce hail-storm (yes, you read that right!) hit the desert and flooded the courts.

While Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, Carla Suarez Navarro and Garbine Muguruza all had to leave Dubai empty-handed after their losses, Wednesday proved to be an excellent day for Ana Ivanovic, who made the quarterfinals by winning a high-quality match against Simona Halep.
