The tennis world is slowly but steadily trying to get back to normal business in Indian Wells following Monday’s announcement from Maria Sharapova that saw the sport making the world’s headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The on-going controversy is never far away in the Californian desert, being the hot topic in pretty much every conversation. Nevertheless, the tournament is slowly kicking into gear as the qualifying stage of the WTA Premier Mandatory tournament has been completed.

12 players have made the main draw, including local hero Nicole Gibbs, Donna Vekic and Germany’s Laura Siegemund. Perhaps the most impressive way into the tournament’s main stage has been completed by America’s Taylor Townsend who fought all the way through pre-qualifying stages to make it into the prestigious tournament.

The first round of the 2016 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is due to kick off tomorrow. Top seeds are expected for the traditional All-Access Hour where without a doubt, the most discussed topic will be… you guessed right.

Keep checking back to Women’s Tennis Blog for much more from Indian Wells as we’ll take you all the way to the tournament’s final in two weeks’ time.
