Serena beats Kuznetsova in the fourth round of Wimbledon as the roof comes to the rescue

Serena WilliamsShowing a little hesitance and with Svetlana Kuznetsova serving for the first set, it could all have been so different for Serena Williams in the fourth round of Wimbledon. But once the roof came over, Serena made a dramatic turnaround, showed no mercy and finished off the Russian’s Wimbledon run.

Kuznetsova was made to work hard for every point. Williams swarmed all over her serve, as she looked to take advantage early in the match. At 2-3, Kuznetsova gained a new lease of life, broke Williams’ serve on her fifth break point and dramatically broke again at 4-4, just before the rain that saw Williams do the splits, having slipped on the moist surface much to her annoyance. Keen to get the roof closed, the American got her wish and duly took the set 7-5.

Having gained her composure, the world No.1 Williams flew through the second set 6-0 and whilst in her bubble delivered a racquet-breaking 131mph ace to show she had upped her gamed. Having beaten Beck yesterday, Serena has turned the switch fully on, and has sent out a warning to all her rivals she is going to be defending her title at all costs and don’t bet against her doing it on this performance.
