Tennis legend Serena Williams took to TikTok to share an unexpected update from a hospital bed, revealing that she recently underwent surgery to remove a branchial cyst from her neck. In the video, the American appeared calm and positive as she talked about her experience, showing the incision and drainage from her neck where the cyst had been removed.
In her caption, Serena explained how she first noticed the lump on her neck back in May. Concerned, she immediately sought medical attention, underwent an MRI, and was diagnosed with a branchial cyst. Her doctors assured her that it wasn’t necessary to remove the cyst unless it became problematic.
However, as time passed, the cyst grew significantly, reaching the size of a small grapefruit. After undergoing further tests, including three separate exams and a biopsy, Serena was relieved to hear that everything remained negative for any serious issues. But due to the cyst’s rapid growth and potential for complications, her doctors advised her to have it surgically removed.
@serena Back in May I found a lump showing on my neck. I immediately went to the doc got a mri and was told I have a brachial cyst. Have you ever heard of that? They said I don’t need to get it removed if I don’t want. So I did not get it but it kept growing. I decided to get more test and 3 test and one biopsy later everything is still negative but doctors advised I get it removed asap because it was the size of a small grapefruit and it could get infected or worse leak. So this is me removing it. I am feelimg so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy. I still made it to American doll with Olympia as promised. And yes all is ok. ???????????????? #fyp #foryourpage #serenawilliams #mom
In her typical resilient fashion, Serena faced the challenge head-on and successfully had the cyst removed. She expressed her gratitude in the caption: “I am feeling so grateful and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.”
Despite the surgery and feeling tired, Serena shared that she kept her promise to her daughter Olympia, managing to take her to American Doll. Even in recovery, she prioritized her time with her daughter, Olympia, showing just how resilient and dedicated she is both as an athlete and a mother.
Fans flooded her TikTok post with supportive comments, sending well-wishes for her recovery and expressing relief that everything turned out well.
