After months of media speculations whether and when the wedding of tennis star Ana Ivanovic and her football-playing fiancé Bastian Schweinsteiger would take place, now it’s absolutely official that the couple got married today in Venice, Italy.
Unlike her colleague Dominika Cibulkova, who wore a lavish dress at her Bratislava wedding this past weekend, Ivanovic wore a modest halter-neck, ruffled gown in a Greek goddess style and kept her hair totally natural, just her regular loose, a bit straightened hair. Ana’s bouquet was also the simplest it could be, consisting only of white flowers. Mr. Schweinsteiger also chose a more relaxed look for his summer wedding, wearing a dark suit without a tie.
Journalists managed to take a few snaps of the just married couple, even though Ana and Bastian tried to keep the ceremony in the Venice City Hall intimate. After exchanging vows, the husband and wife boarded a gondola to get to the Aman Canal Grande luxury hotel, famous for hosting the wedding of George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin in 2014, where the wedding party was ready to kick off.
According to Serbian newspaper Kurir, Ana and Bastian came to Venice yesterday around 3 p.m. from Mallorca. The three-day wedding, whose prime day is Tuesday, July 12th, was organized by 300 people and cost Ana and Bastian about one million euros.
Ana’s maid of honor was three-time Serbian Olympic swimmer Miroslava Najdanovski.
In the wedding photos we’ve seen so far, there is no sight of Ana’s tennis colleagues, but we do know that Angelique Kerber was invited, as she was the one who spilled the beans about the wedding back in February. In the coming days more photos will surface for sure, so we just have to be patient.
My WTA Players and their Love Partners section is now enriched with one more beautiful wedding. Congratulations, Ana and Bastian! I’m wishing you a harmonious family life.
Emman Damian, every article has different info, I’m totally lost. All I’m sure now is that she is married.
Congrats to Ana! I heard from one of my sources that this is just a civil wedding and there will be a Church wedding tomorrow. I wish her more happiness!
Congrats gurl! Time to retire now and spare us the pain of first round losses!
