Sunday’s qualifying action at the 2016 Generali Ladies Linz had two WTA veterans in the spotlight, as 2007 Linz champion Daniela Hantuchova and 2007 finalist Patty Schnyder are among 32 players trying to get into the tournament’s packed main draw.
Hantuchova got one step closer to the main draw, backing up her first-round win against Lauren Davis with a straight-ser win over another American, Julia Boserup.
Patty Schnyder was less successful, losing her match to a fellow Swiss player, as Stefanie Voegele proved to be too much to overcome for the WTA veteran. Fans in Linz will still get to see more of Schnyder though, since the former Top 10 player also signed up to play doubles.
The final qualifying round will be played on Monday and the tournament’s main draw is scheduled to start shortly after. Fans in Linz will get to see plenty of intense first-round matches, including Belinda Bencic vs. Dominika Cibulkova, the big hitter duel between Madison Keys & Carmila Giorgi and Eugenie Bouchard’s duel with Anett Kontaveit.
For much more from Linz, keep checking back all week.
