Lacoste is one of those brands that simply doesn’t care for the latest fashion fads, always firmly holding onto traditional designs and colors, only subtly adding contemporary details here and there. While I admire Lacoste’s approach and their outfits last year were very good, as I presented in my Dominika Cibulkova’s 2016 fashion overview, the company too often fails to deliver variety, as their players wear the same dresses through months.

However, now I’m pleased to see that the 2017 season started with a bang for Lacoste, as Alize Cornet and Christina McHale debuted an outstanding new collection at the Brisbane International, including the Lacoste Spring Player Dress, the Lacoste Spring Tank and the Lacoste Spring Pleated Skirt.

As you can see, it’s still the Lacoste we know, with the color palette not detaching from navy, red and white, but they managed to make a stunning and different look without doing anything special. They just combined the tried-and-true design elements such as pleats, keyhole cutouts, racerback, stripes and colorblocks in a slightly different way then before, yet the result is an absolutely new, supremely stylish look. I really admire Lacoste for creating a completely refreshing collection, by making changes so subtle that it’s hard to even pinpoint them. Do you agree?

I love the stripy straps, the always cute pleats, the front colorblocks that accentuate the figure just right and the adorable racerback that’s so simple yet kind of edgy. The world No.41 paired the dress with the Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour shoes in crimson/rose.

Christina McHale showcased the separates from the collection in the all-Lacoste meeting with Alize Cornet in the second round of the Brisbane International. Interestingly, Cornet’s quarterfinal match is another all-Lacoste affair, as the Frenchwoman faces world No.5 Dominika Cibulkova, the brand’s top representative, who for some reason continues to wear her last year’s Lacoste Fall Racer Dress (maybe because pleats are not really Domi’s thing and the last season’s dress suits her to perfection).

Are you as impressed by Lacoste’s 2017 launch as I am?

  1. I love that dress !
Fun fact : Alizé played her first match in Auckland against Vesnina (who was wearing last year’s Lacoste dress as well).

  2. Virginie, thanks for noting! You’re right! However, if she beats Cibulkova she’ll not face another Lacoste opponent 😛 Pity 🙂

  3. Emman Damian, I really don’t get it. The only explanation I can provide is that Domi isn’t really a pleat person. Although, that doesn’t explain why Elena didn’t sport the new look. They’ll have to wear something new at the Australian Open.
