Former Nike player Zhang Shuai has become the first Chinese WTA star to wear Asics gear. The partnership was officially launched at Wimbledon 2018 where the world No.30 sported the Asics Spring Speed Dress and Asics Gel-Resolution 7 footwear.

“I’m so excited to be an official part of Team Asics. I’ve always loved Asics footwear, because it’s so comfortable and helps me move faster,” said the Chinese No.1 player. “As the first female tennis player from China to sign with Asics, I also have the great opportunity to support the growth of tennis not only in China, but around the world.”

Motoi Oyama, chairman and CEO of Asics, revealed that the company plans to put the tennis category front and center, as they strive to become the world’s top tennis footwear brand.

Zhang is now joining Samantha Stosur, Julia Goerges, Johanna Konta, Coco Vandeweghe and Daria Gavrilova as a promoter of Asics gear on the WTA courts.
