Tuesday at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix was marked by the start of main-draw play and our photographer Jimmie48 captured most of the first-round action, as well as press conferences, off-court activities and some practice sessions.
As you could read in my Tuesday’s report, Daria Kasatkina eliminated Stuttgart debutante Elise Mertens, Anastasija Sevastova edged Jelena Ostapenko in an all-Latvian clash, 2017 champion Laura Siegemund comfortably defeated Lesia Tsurenko, Greet Minnen upset Dominika Cibulkova, sixth seed Kiki Bertens battled past Anna-Lena Friedsam, and Andrea Petkovic advanced to the second round with a straight-set victory over Sara Sorribes Tormo.
We also have photos of Lucie Safarova‘s last appearance at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, as the Czech, partnered with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova this week in doubles, is about to play her final career tournament at the J&T Banka Prague Open later this month. Let me note that in Prague she was supposed to team up with her legendary partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands, but there’s been a change of plans, so Barbora Stefkova will be by her side during her farewell tournament.
Our Jimmie48 also attended the press conferences of Andrea Petkovic, Daria Kasatkina, Karolina Pliskova, world No.1 Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova, and Simona Halep, the second seed who had to withdraw from the event because of a left hip injury suffered during the Fed Cup weekend, as well as Victoria Azarenka‘s practice session.
