While the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic is approaching its final stage, a lot of players are already at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, either practicing or trying to qualify for the Premier 5 event. Our Jimmie48 is also on the spot, as the prestigious US Open Series tournament unfolds.

Saturday kicked off qualifying action and a number of big names could be spotted in the qualifying draw, with the most notable match being former world No.9 Andrea Petkovic‘s win over former world No.68 Nicole Gibbs, who played her first WTA tournament since Indian Wells in March, after recovering from a surgery that removed a malignant growth on the roof of her mouth.

Also on the comeback trail is Bianca Andreescu, the Canadian who sensationally won Indian Wells, but then hasn’t played since withdrawing from Roland Garros ahead of her second-round match against Sofia Kenin because of a right shoulder injury. The 19-year-old Andreescu was all smiles talking to the media on Saturday, especially when she commented on her first-round match-up with compatriot Eugenie Bouchard: “That’s a shocker. Basically the only two Canadians in the draw.”

Anett Kontaveit, Angelique Kerber, Daria Kasatkina, Dayana Yastremska, Johanna Konta, Madison Keys, and Caroline Garcia were spotted training ahead of the $2,830,000 tournament in Toronto.
