World No.11 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus appeared on the Makaenka 9 talk show in her home country and when the presenter asked her about the ring on her hand, the 21-year-old tennis star candidly revealed that she was engaged.
Her fiancé is still being kept a secret, but we do know that he is not from Belarus and Sabalenka made sure to prevent the rumors that it’s her former coach, Russian Dmitry Tursunov.
Judging from Sabalenka’s statement reported by the Ukrainian Tennis Twitter profile, we can conclude that the wedding will not be in the near future:
It’s just an engagement. I am a little bit against weddings, against it as an event like it is. It’s not Tursunov (laughing). He is not from Belarus.
There was no indication of Sabalenka’s relationship on her social media profiles, so this news comes as quite a surprise, especially that the five-time WTA titlist is still only 21.
We still don’t know who Sabalenka’s chosen one is, but I suppose this does qualify to be added to my WTA Players and their Love Partners section.
