Lucie Safarova and her man Tomas Plekanec today became proud parents of a baby girl named Lea.
The 32-year-old retired Czech tennis star announced the news on Instagram by sharing a photo of her and her partner holding their newborn’s hand. The caption reads:
I woke up this morning as a mom… nothing beats that feeling! Welcome to our family Lea… ❤️ #babygirl #love #biggest #happiness #family
The couple made the pregnancy public in July, while Safarova had been aware of it in April, before the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix where she played the women’s doubles final teamed up with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Safarova’s boyfriend Tomas Plekanec is a 37-year-old Czech hockey player. He is now a father of three, as he has sons Matyas and Adam from his marriage to Czech singer/actress Lucie Vondrackova.
The five-time Grand Slam doubles champion Safarova quit tennis after the 2019 French Open, where she played doubles alongside Dominika Cibulkova, who will also become a mom in a few months.
