Even though the resumption of the WTA calendar is not going absolutely smoothly, as some top players had eventually opted out of traveling and one player tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the 31st Palermo Ladies Open, qualifying at the Palermo event successfully kicked off on Saturday and Jimmie48 is on the site to bring us plenty of photos every day.
The first round of qualifying was on Saturday’s schedule at the 31st Palermo Ladies Open and matches went on past midnight, as Marta Kostyuk, wearing the Nike Summer Striped Tank, closed the day with a late night 6-1 6-2 win over Daniela Seguel. Kaja Juvan, Yanina Wickmayer, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Oceane Dodin, Ysaline Bonaventure, and Martina Di Giuseppe also advanced to the second round of qualifying.
Besides qualifying action, our photographer caught up with top players during their practice sessions, including Donna Vekic, Maria Sakkari, Marketa Vondrousova, Petra Martic and Dayana Yastremska. Speaking of Yastremska, have you heard her new single “Favorite Track”? I don’t understand the lyrics but I like the beat and her singing.
The first tournament after nearly five months without tennis employs strict safety and distancing measures, which is also evidenced at press conferences as players remotely chat with media members around the globe. We have photos of top seed Petra Martic’s interviews.
