Seventh seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic recorded a straightforward 6-2 6-4 victory over Zhang Shuai of China to reach the quarterfinals of the 2020 French Open.

Kicking off the fourth-round action in the bottom half of the draw, Kvitova dominated most of the match, but it looked like Zhang could not give 100%, as the world No.39 took a medical timeout at 2-5 in the first set.

Kvitova opened the first set with a 4-0 lead and never looked endangered by her opponent. Only in the second set the Czech experienced a brief slump, as Zhang won two consecutive games when Kvitova was serving for the match at 5-2.

Making the French Open quarterfinals for the first time since 2012, the 11th-ranked Kvitova has ensured a comeback to the Top 10, more precisely to the No.9 position. Next up for Kvitova is Germany’s Laura Siegemund, who defeated Paula Badosa of Spain 7-5 6-2.
