After a lifetime of training with her father, Caroline Garcia made a courageous decision to introduce a big change into her tennis career and stop working with Louis Paul Garcia as her coach.

The former world No.4 Caroline, who is now down to 53 in the WTA rankings and has rarely won two matches in a row since 2019, told L’Equipe:

For two years, the objectives have not been achieved. It is inevitably difficult because we continued to work hard. It is not as if we rested on our laurels. It’s hard to see that it doesn’t pay off.

The Frenchwoman, winner of seven singles and six doubles titles, explained how she introduced the life-changing decision to her father:

I tried to explain to him as best I could. My father remains my father. There is always a lot of love. We lived such moments together. (…) My parents made a lot of sacrifices. I can’t thank them enough. I’m sure there will be more great tennis moments in the future.

After a month off to treat her knee, Garcia resumes competition at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia where she’s playing qualifying. There she will be coached by Gabriel Urpi, the former coach of Flavia Pennetta and Arantxa Sanchez. The Spanish coach will continue to work with Garcia through the clay season, at Parma, Strasbourg and Roland Garros. (source: The Indian Paper)
