Naomi Osaka is listed in two categories in the 2021 ESPYs presented by Capital One.
The four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka is among four WTA players nominated in the category “Best athlete, women’s tennis”. The other three are: world No.1 Ashleigh Barty, 2020 US Open runner-up Victoria Azarenka, and 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.
Who will you vote for and why? I voted for Azarenka, because I admire her ability to continue a professional tennis career despite being a single mom. Her fairy tale run during last year’s US Open Series was truly inspirational.
In the “Best athlete, women’s sports” group, Osaka is joined by gymnast Simone Biles, fighter Amanda Nunes (UFC), and Breanna Steward, the WNBA Finals MVP who led Seattle to its fourth championship.
