Playing only her second match on clay this season, her least favorite surface, former world No.1 Osaka outweighed her 23 winners with 25 unforced errors, while her opponent kept those stats in equilibrium with 3/3. Sorribes Tormo’s superiority was most evident in the first serve department, which translated into a much greater number of break point opportunities, which the Spaniard converted 4 out of 9.

In other second-round matches, Anhelina Kalilna upset seventh seed Garbine Muguruza 6-3 6-0 to post her first Top 10 win, while Bianca Andreescu continued to build her comeback with a dominant 6-1 6-1 win over Danielle Collins.
