World No.69 Marie Bouzkova has tested positive for COVID-19 for the first time ever and has hence had to withdraw from both singles and doubles at Roland Garros.

The Czech tennis player announced the news on social media, saying that she would hopefully start to feel better soon and get back on court.

In the first round, Bouzkova defeated lucky loser Anastasia Gasanova 6-2 6-1. Her withdrawal is now handing a walkover to Belgium’s seed No.31 Elise Mertens, who is through to the third round without play.

It’s a pity that Bouzkova is ending her participation at the 2022 French Open in this way, as this is the first time she’s progressed past the opening round in Paris.

  1. What happened to Ann Li? She retired from her 1st round match leading Allison Van Uytvanck 6-3, 3-2.

  2. Thanks, Marija. It must have been really bad for her to retire leading. BTW Jo-Wilifred Tsonga had injured his shoulder playing the last match of his career against Ruud. Congratulations to him for a great tennis career.

  3. Jim, yes, she had such a good lead. I know about Tsonga, I watched some of that match. It was very emotional.
