World No.1 Iga Swiatek absolutely dominated the WTA Tour since February, but we knew that grass-court tournaments could be the end of her winning streak due to her lack of experience on the surface. The day has come: the Pole’s 37-match run got broken by always-dangerous Alize Cornet in the third round of Wimbledon, 6-4 6-2.

Playing 62nd consecutive Grand Slam main draw, the world No.37 Cornet capitalized on Swiatek’s error-prone game. The favorite committed 32 unforced errors to her opponent’s 7.

The 32-year-old Cornet now owns four victories over current WTA No.1s, but this is the first one over a player other than Serena Williams. Her opponent in the fourth round will be Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated former Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova earlier on Saturday.
