Venus Williams answers retirement questions

Now that Serena Williams is “evolving away from tennis”, everyone is wondering for how long we’ll keep having her one year older sister Venus Williams on the Hologic WTA Tour. In her latest vlog, the 42-year-old tells us what she’s been up to in the recent period and explains how she views her future in tennis.

Interestingly, neither Williams sisters likes to explicitly say “retirement” and they are always quite vague when addressing questions related to their next steps in tennis. In her new YouTube video, Venus again didn’t give a clear-cut answer, but she did assure us that she keeps training very hard and that she plans to stay on the Hologic WTA Tour for the time being.

Talking about retirement, Venus’ first statement was “I don’t have any answers.” However, she proceeded to say: “I’ve been staying strong, staying in the gym, and I’m actually still hitting balls, it brings me so much joy. I don’t have any immediate plans to announce, but I promise you that you’ll be the first to know.

After talking about her off-court projects such as her EleVen tennis clothing brand and her partnership with Lacoste, the seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus got back to her intense training regime:

Believe me, when I’m training, it takes all day. I was training yesterday, we started at 8 a.m. and I think we finished around 6 p.m. and we still could’ve done more. So, it’s all day affair, it takes a lot of time and energy, it’s a lifestyle. I pretty much train every day — holidays, weekends, doesn’t matter to me, it’s a day to get some work in.” Don’t think that Venus is complaining, though, her strict regime makes her happy: “For me, putting in the work makes me feel good.”

So, the WTA legend who started her pro career back in 1994 is here to stay. Since her sister Serena promised to hit with her anytime she wanted, Venus is sure to have a superior hitting partner.
