The USTA and Billie Jean King Cup captain Kathy Rinaldi unveiled the lineup for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals. Madison Keys, Sofia Kenin, Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens and Taylor Townsend will represent the USA in this event set to be played November 7-12 on indoor hard courts at Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain.
Over six days, the Finals will determine this year’s Billie Jean King Cup champion. The 12 participating teams will be divided into four groups, engaging in a round-robin format, with the group champions progressing to the knockout-style semifinals.
The USA has been placed in Group A, where they will clash with Switzerland on Thursday, November 9, at 4 p.m. local time, followed by a showdown with the Czech Republic on Friday, November 10, also at 4 p.m. local time. Each tie will be a best-of-three contest, featuring two singles matches and one doubles match.
The United States is the all-time leader with 18 Billie Jean King Cup titles and will hope to add to that this year by bringing a team with two Grand Slam singles champions, four major singles finalists and a career-high Top 5 doubles player.
Notably, Top 5 singles and doubles players Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are missing from the United States team, as they are playing the WTA Finals, the event that will conclude in Cancun on Sunday, November 5. Meanwhile, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan and the Czech duo of Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova intend to compete in both tournaments.
