Iga Swiatek won her 20th match in a row and sailed into the second round of Wimbledon with a 6-3 6-4 victory over fellow Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin.

Iga Swiatek

In one of Wimbledon’s most anticipated opening matches, Swiatek had little trouble dispatching the 2020 Australian Open winner. The top seed quickly took a 2-0 lead. Although she briefly lost serve in the third game, the Polish star immediately broke back and secured the first set in 37 minutes on her second set point during her service game.

The second set went with serve until the seventh game when Swiatek secured a crucial break. She then finished the match with a love hold. For the first time in her career, Kenin exited Wimbledon in the first round.

The five-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek achieved her best performance at Wimbledon last year, reaching the quarterfinals.
