Just two weeks after parting ways with long-time coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek has found a new team member in Belgian coach Wim Fissette, renowned for his work with top players like Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep, and Angelique Kerber. Fissette, who recently ended his collaboration with Osaka, brings a wealth of experience, having guided players to Grand Slam glory.

Holding a razor-thin 69-point lead over world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, Swiatek is determined to widen the gap and secure her position at the top as she prepares for the upcoming WTA Finals in Riyadh. The 23-year-old Pole’s vision is for this to be a long-term cooperation and not just a trial or short-term. “I said many times that my career is a marathon for me, not a sprint,” Swiatek remarked. “I’m working, operating and making decisions with this approach.”

Excited about her new coaching partnership, Swiatek praised Fissette’s great attitude, extensive experience, and shared vision for her future. “It’s always crucial to try and get to know each other better but we’re off to a good start and I can’t wait to compete soon,” she said, expressing her eagerness to hit the courts under his guidance.

Under Wiktorowski, Swiatek reached the pinnacle of women’s tennis, winning four of her five Grand Slam titles and dominating the WTA rankings. Now, with Fissette at her side—who helped Osaka win two of her four Grand Slam titles—Swiatek is aiming to elevate her game even further. With their combined expertise and a clear focus on the long haul, Swiatek and Fissette are set to be a formidable team.
