Doubles world No. 15 Asia Muhammad has said “yes”! The American tennis star is officially engaged to fiancé James Cross, and her friends made sure the occasion was celebrated in true style.

Muhammad first shared the happy news on Instagram with a glowing selfie taken at Kentucky Alleyne Provincial Park, where she proudly showed off her sparkling ring alongside her fiancé. The caption read: “When the engagement makes it out of the group chat!!!”

The announcement quickly drew congratulations from across the tennis world. Stars including Sloane Stephens, Anett Kontaveit, Caroline Dolehide, Naomi Broady, Madison Keys, Coco Gauff, Shelby Rogers, Kim Clijsters, and many more left their messages of love and support.

But the real celebration came in New York, where Muhammad’s WTA friends organized a surprise evening to mark the engagement. Wearing a chic little white strappy dress, Muhammad walked into a dinner surrounded by familiar faces including Jessica Pegula, Eugenie Bouchard, Erin Routliffe, Demi Schuurs, and Jennifer Brady. The night featured thoughtful touches, from heartfelt details to a cake decorated with the words “She said yes.”

Muhammad shared her gratitude on Instagram:

The sweetest surprises surrounded by the sweetest people, forever grateful for my friends and these mems!! Can’t believe they pulled this off.

She also gave special thanks to her best friend Erin Routliffe, writing:

A very special thank you to my best friend, Erin Routliffe. You somehow make me feel more loved & celebrated than I ever thought possible. From the dinner to every thoughtful detail—even sneaking in & decorating my room—you truly did it all. So lucky to have you by my side.

This is Muhammad’s second engagement. In December 2020, she and fellow tennis player Dayne Kelly announced their engagement, but the couple later quietly split without making a formal statement.

At 34, Muhammad’s career is still going strong on the doubles circuit and now she’s embracing this exciting new chapter off the court as well.
