Professional tennis players Mirjam Bjorklund of Sweden and Canada’s Denis Shapovalov have officially said “I do.” The couple exchanged vows in Zakynthos, Greece, choosing the breathtaking Lesante Cape Hotel as the setting for their four-day wedding celebration. Shortly after the big day, Bjorklund embraced her new chapter by updating her Instagram name to Mirjam Shapovalova.

The tennis duo first crossed paths in 2019, when Shapovalov spotted Bjorklund at the Stockholm Open, having recognized her from her photo on the cover of a magazine. What began with a conversation through her sister quickly turned into a friendship that blossomed into something much deeper. When Bjorklund later traveled to London following an injury, the bond between them truly took shape. In July 2023, they got engaged on a beach in Bastad, Sweden, and now they have sealed their commitment with a wedding on the shores of the Ionian Sea.

Only 30 of their closest family members and friends were present to witness the union. The ceremony took place outdoors, with the sea stretching endlessly in the background. Bjorklund walked down the aisle in a strapless gown by Ukrainian designer Milla Nova, while Shapovalov waited with a wide smile that he admitted he couldn’t hide.

Perhaps the biggest surprise came during the reception, when the newlyweds skipped the traditional slow dance and wowed their guests with a choreographed routine inspired by the comedy The Wedding Ringer. Bjorklund even managed to pull off a backflip. “I think all our guests knew we were not going to do a slow dance, but I don’t think anyone expected that,” she laughed. (source: People)
