The tennis off-season is kicking off with engagement news from Kimberly Birrell. The Australian player said yes to her long-time boyfriend Matt Fraser, and the couple shared their joy on Instagram.
Proudly showing off her sparkling engagement ring, Birrell posted a series of loving photos with her fiancé, writing: “6 years & the rest of our lives to go ❤️.”

Fellow players including Daria Kasatkina, Daria Saville, Asia Muhammad, Shelby Rogers, Katie Swan, and Sabine Lisicki flooded the comments with congratulations. The funniest reaction came from Eva Lys, who wrote: “Did you hear me scream all the way from Germany?”

The 27-year-old, currently ranked No. 95 in the world, reached a career-high of No. 60 in May 2025. Earlier this month at the Chennai Open, Birrell saved five match points and won seven straight games to turn around her semifinal match against Joanna Garland and reach her second tour-level singles final. For her remarkable sportsmanship, she received the Margaret Amritraj Fairplay Award, presented by Indian tennis legend and Tamil Nadu Tennis Association President Vijay Amritraj, in honor of his late mother.
