American world No. 157 Bernarda Pera is engaged to her longtime partner Kristijan Krajina, a Croatian professional basketball player for the Kaohsiung Aquas of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL). “Were we even engaged if we didn’t post it?” the 31-year-old Pera joked in the caption announcing the news. Fellow WTA players filled the comments with congratulations, including Marta Kostyuk, Caroline Garcia, Shelby Rogers, Asia Muhammad, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Montenegrin Danka Kovinic added to the excitement by revealing she already has a dress picked out for the party.
Croatian-born Pera, a former world No. 27, enjoyed the most successful stretch of her career in 2022, when she claimed her only two WTA titles back to back in Budapest and Hamburg. Her fiancé Krajina is a professional basketball player who moved to the United States as a high school senior, played college basketball at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland, and later built an international career across Europe and now in Taiwan.
