Caroline Wozniacki is the center of attention these days, as the former world No.1 and Grand Slam champion announced that she would retire from professional tennis after the 2020 Australian Open. As part of my annual Fashion Retrospections, I’ve been doing overviews of the Dane’s Adidas outfits throughout her illustrious career, so let’s see all her on-court looks in what was her final full season on the WTA tour.
Wozniacki kicked off the 2019 season in Auckland, wearing separates from the 2018 US Open — Adidas Stella McCartney NYC Tank and Skirt, an ensemble characteristic for its laser perforations, mesh and colorblocks.
The ombre effect of Adidas’ collection for the Australian Open was inspired by Melbourne’s ocean, while the main thing about the high-performance range was that it included yarn made from recycled plastic bottles, as part of collaboration with Parley for the Oceans. Here we can see Caro in the Adidas Spring Parley Tank Top and the Parley Skirt.
Wozniacki’s best result of the season was a run to the final of Charleston, during which she sported the purple version of the Adidas Summer Escouade Tank, featuring dropped armholes and generous see-through panels.
The Adidas Summer Escouade Skirt is unique for its side pleats with inner vibrant coral color pops that match the sports bra peeking through the mesh top.
The Escouade collection was also Caro’s choice for Roland Garros, this time in black and white with blue accents.
At Wimbledon, the most successful Scandinavian WTA player got back to dresses after a full year of wearing separates and rocked the Adidas Fall Stella McCartney Dress, whose laser-cut details help circulate airflow and form a camo pattern. For a little touch of color that Wimbledon permits, Adidas decided to incorporate red around the collar.
In Toronto and Cincinnati, Wozniacki rocked a red version of the quick-drying Wimbledon dress which mixes an engineered knit mesh with laser-cut patterns on the performance jersey.
As I’ve already mentioned in Angelique Kerber’s 2019 fashion retrospection, the US Open look was inspired by the Grand Slam’s host city and its skyscrapers, as we can see in the glitch print of the woven Adidas New York Skirt. The Dane paired it with a pure black Adidas New York Tank, a fantastic design with an open hole mesh overlay in the shape of a bra.
In Wuhan and Beijing, Caro promoted a different colorway of the US Open outfit. Here’s a closer look at the tank top, my favorite tank top in 2019. Do you agree?
I started doing overviews of Caro’s fashion way back in 2009, when the Dane was just four years into her pro career. Go through my archives and you’ll see the evolution of Caro’s tennis fashion, as well as the transformation of the Stella McCartney style.
