World No.46 Paula Badosa has withdrawn from the US Open due to a persistent back injury and announced the end of her 2023 tennis season.

Paula Badosa talks to the media

The former world No.2 Badosa wrote on social media:

After struggling for many months to compete again, I am ending my season. Those of you who know me, know how much I like to compete and how difficult it has been to make this decision. We have tried everything together with my team, but the pain is not letting me move forward. Thanks to the people who are still by my side in these hard times.

At least she got to enjoy New York with her boyfriend Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Badosa suffered a stress fracture in her spine during the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. The injury forced her to withdraw from Roland Garros. Even though she entered Wimbledon, she retired midway through her second-round match against Marta Kostyuk due to the same injury. The Spaniard has not played since and is now working on her recovery for the 2024 season.

In the US Open draw, Badosa will be replaced by a qualifier/lucky loser. All qualifiers and lucky losers will be drawn into the main draw at the completion of qualifying.
