World No.31 Sania Mirza gets sued for this act!

The Indian player allegedly dishonored her country’s flag by putting her feet right in front of it while watching a match at the Hopman Cup in Perth. A lawyer in Madhya Pradesh has filed a case against the darling of Indian sports. If she is found guilty, she could receive a sentence of up to three years in prison, plus a fine.

I don’t know what to say. Mirza certainly didn’t do this on purpose, and that’s why I’m really sorry she got into the trouble, but on the other hand, she knows where she comes from, and should either pay more attention to her behavior or be prepared to suffer the consequences. That’s just the way it is.

BTW: This is not the first time Sania Mirza got into this kind of trouble. Last month Indian police registered a case of trespass against her for filming an advert in the premises of a mosque in her hometown Hyderabad. The 21-year-old has also faced an edict in the past from a Muslim group after her tennis attire was termed un-Islamic.

    THANKS

  2. I just wiped my sweaty feet all over the British flag. And I’m going to wipe my arse with it later (I don’t need to poop yet)

So glad to live in the UK where we can do these things.

  3. National flag should be respected, no matter which country you belong to. Nobody puts their feet when the flag is right before them, they cant be so naive, and say that was not deliberate. Her profession is representing a country, so she should be cautious about it. She admires Steffi Graf and Roger Federer, and both are extremely fond of their country. Germans are patriotic and nationalists, and would never commit such blunders.

Well Sania, do us a favor and never play tennis again!

  4. Aparna, this was such a long time ago, but now that I revisit this photo I’m thinking how she’s even sitting like that in public, barefoot with her legs up. She definitely needs more etiquette. But when it comes to India, nevertheless, she’s done a great deal in promoting the country, positively.
