Sania Mirza and her husband Shoaib Malik are rumored to have separated after twelve years of marriage.

The former WTA doubles No.1 Mirza, one of the highest-paid and most influential athletes in India, caused a lot of controversy back in 2010 when she announced her intention to marry Malik, a Pakistani cricketer. Even though they jumped through hoops to tie the knot, and welcomed their first child after eight years of marriage, a baby boy named Izhaan Mirza Malik in October 2018, the word is out that Malik has been unfaithful to his wife and that they are not together any more.

Amid divorce rumors, Mirza posted on Instagram a photo of herself enjoying recreational activities outside with a smile on her face. There were no words in her photo caption, just two palm trees and two hands forming a heart shape. The popular Indian player’s followers have flooded the comments section with questions about her reported separation, begging her to clear the rumors and wishing it was fake news.

A week ago, Mirza shared a photo of her son kissing her and wrote: “The moments that get me through the hardest days.”

One of the reasons this marriage between two sports celebrities was initially so controversial was that India and Pakistan have a largely hostile relationship and the border between these two countries is one of the most militarised international boundaries in the world. Moreover, Sania had ended her previous engagement to childhood friend Mohammed Sohrab Mirza just months before announcing her new future husband, Shoaib Malik. (source: DNA India)
