Sania Mirza delivered a baby boy on Tuesday, October 30th, and the news was revealed by her husband Shoaib Malik on social media. It is the first child of the Indian tennis star and her Pakistani cricketer husband after eight years of marriage.
Since announcing pregnancy in April 2018, the former doubles No.1 Mirza frequently discussed her pregnancy days and we had several opportunities to see her baby bump in magazine photoshoots, such as the one for JFW when she was six months pregnant.
The baby’s name is Izhaan, while in one interview during her pregnancy Mirza address her baby’s surname:
My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza-Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband.
As I’ve already mentioned on Women’s Tennis Blog, the 31-year-old Mirza is serious about joining the active WTA mom’s club:
I just want to and have the need to get back out there. I miss it right now, the feeling of victory, the feel of competition, and the emotions you leave out to give it all on the court, and I miss it all! 2020 is still way off and as a woman I feel that pregnancy should not be a deterrent in career, it should basically empower and inspire you. In fact, it should make you want to achieve your goals in life even more. That is what pregnancy is to me, so 2020 seems perfect for a comeback year.
