Venus Williams hasn’t lost one singles match at the JB Group Classic in Hong Kong, and her last victim was Russian world number seven Vera Zvonareva.

The 28-year-old American rounded off her only preparation for the Australian Open with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Zvonareva.

From what we’ve seen of the world number six this week, she’s on a great way to win her first Australian Open title.

Prior to beating Zvonareva, Williams had defeated Anna Chakvetadze 7-6 6-3, and world number one Jelena Jankovic 6-2 6-2.

Williams’ win helped Team Americas claim victory over Team Russia in the JB Gold Group final. Other members of Team Americas were Gisela Dulko of Argentina and American Coco Vandeweghe.

  1. Venus is looking so strong and motivated! You know last year at Australia she lost to Ana in a very close match, otherwise she would have prob been in the Final. I expect to see Venus in the final!

  2. I think it is not that close, and Venus seems to be tentative in that match, and the Aussie heat had caused more damage than good, it seems to be that the one who will win the ana v. vee match is the one who had tremendous resistance against heat……..

Hi Marija, serena won in sydney against Sam Stosur, and Sam is giving Serena problems, it was a close match!!!!!!!!

Serena is bejewelled in her match, I saw a necklace with an S on it

  3. Venus is looking very strong for the Australian Open. Of all the top players she is the one who is looking the fittest and is playing the most confident tennis. She is on a pretty good winning streak to. I would love to see her win now that Maria is out.

  4. Venus rocks right now! She’s the strongest player at the moment, definitely.

Pat, thank you for being the first to inform me. I checked my inbox first thing in the morning, and saw your comment about Maria. Too disappointing news. BTW, I mentioned your name in the article. 😉
