Jelena Jankovic wins grueling quarterfinal against Alize Cornet

Jelena Jankovic at Open GDF SUEZ in ParisSecond seed Jelena Jankovic reached the semifinals of the Open GDF SUEZ in Paris with a hard-fought victory over home favorite Alize Cornet, seeded fifth.

The Serb won the quarterfinal 7-5 4-6 6-4 on her second match point, after long 2 hours and 37 minutes of play. Unbelievably, out of 32 games played, as much as 19 were breaks of serve. I think that fact describes the match pretty well.

Let’s just mention one more thing: Jankovic had a 5-2 lead in the first set and was serving to win it, but the world No.13 Cornet won five consecutive games and earned herself the initial lead.

  1. A big congratulations to Jelena! Yes, it was a very interesting match. Jelena had to safe her serve. But, I am glad that she was able to win. I love her smart tennis full of diversity. She is so talented. What a girl!

  2. What is up w/JJ? She’s not in form yet, or else she wouldn’t have had to battle it out for over two and a half hours. But then, she did so well at Fed Cup. I don’t know…

Or, maybe she just likes giving her fans a heart attack.

  3. JJ is not in form in my opinion, but Cornet’s game has improved this match might have been a combination of both.

Is Alize Cornet married? She always wear a wedding ring and lately Caroline wozniacki. Did they pulled an Anna Kournikova?

  4. hello.
just wondering, are there any internet sites where i can watch good tennis matches.
im australia. we dont televise anything apart from the summer tennis seris and wimbledon 🙁

  5. Kristine, I feel like Jelena’s still finding her form this season. I don’t think she wants to harm her fans. 🙂

Carlos, I haven’t heard Cornet got married, Wozniacki either.

Jacob, I’m watching the Paris Open at Eurosport, but this site http://www.tennistv.com/page/Home/0,,11444,00.html has the official live stream of the WTA and ATP. You should find it helpful.
