Adidas by Stella McCartney signs Caroline Wozniacki, no more Maria Kirilenko

Stella McCartney’s patience deserves every respect, but even her waiting for Maria Kirilenko to actually showcase some of her outfits seems to have ended since Caroline Wozniacki has been chosen as a new promoter of adidas by Stella McCartney.

Maria Kirilenko has been constantly losing early in tournaments and tennis fans barely got the chance to see beautiful adidas by Stella McCartney designs. I’m sure the 18-year-old Dane will be a much better promoter of the brand, although Kirilenko and adidas by Stella McCartney were a match made in heaven considering how the clothes suited the Russian.

  1. It will be interesting to see how well the clothes work on Wozniacki. To me she’s more sporty than fashion.

  2. Poor Kiri, but I can’t wait to see those beautiful dresses on Caroline. Last year while Ana was still on top, I thought she should wear Stella McCartney dresses because I do not like her dresses at all. But Caroline’s a good choice, since Ana is losing early as well.

  3. poor ana… I don’t know why exactly, but she is one of my favourite players!jeje
But anyway, I amb not a huge fan of Stella McCartney dresses although they are glamorous!

  4. Ana might have to find a sponsor next year as her adidas contract will expire in 2010. Also, Wimbledon announced on its official website the seeded players already. Nothing unusual about the seedings, except…. MARIA IS SEEDED 24. That means she’ll avoid a big name in the first round and won’t meet a top ten seeded playing in the third round.

It’s no surprise though as she is a past champion and two time semifinalist. And Wimbledon always does that. 😛

  5. Even though I am a little sad to hear this news I feel that it is the right decision by ADIDAS. I think the Stella McCartney designs really suit Maria, but I cannot remember seeing a picture of her in them this year cos she has been eliminated so early in all the tourneys! Caroline is someone who is playing much better tennis and therefore the cloths will get more coverage!

  6. Jacob, I don’t know exactly, but I suppose at the US Open.

Teerin, you had anticipated Maria would be seeded. Congrats to you!

Mariam, I think exactly the same way you do.

  7. It’s not surprising that Adidas has replaced Maria Kirilenko as the face of the Stella McCartney Line.

It’s really disappointing on the part of Stella and Adidas that they don’t get a lot of media coverage on her designs with Kirilenko as the endorser. They are just wasting their investment on a player who could not even past the second round more so that she only plays in the outside court.

I believe that adidas created the Adidas Tennis Player Development Programme as a way to make good investments on its stable of players. The more success the player has on the court, the more coverage he/she gets from the media. The end result will be more sales on the part of adidas.

It’s really disappointing that Maria Kirilenko has not step up her game to be in league of Safina, Ivanovic and Wozniacki. Her game is so vulnerable. She doesn’t have any weapons that would make her an exciting player. She may have the looks but what is important for a tennis player is his/her ability to market himsef/herself with a good solid tennis game. I hope Maria Kirilenko will realize that if she wants to market herself as a good businesswoman by taking advantage of her looks then she has to play really well. Case in point – Maria Sharapova.
I do hope she will take advantange of the adidas tennis player development programme in order to seek help from the experts like sven groeneveld, darren cahill and gil reyes. The programme has been very successful. To date, Safina, Ivanovic, Wozniacki and Verdasco are living testaments of its success.

As for Caroline, being the chosen one to wear the very exclusive Stella McCartney Line is a reward for her dedication and loyalty to the brand. I’m sure that the outfit will suit her well.

Although, there are some people who are skeptical about her appointment, let’s give her chance to showcase what she has. I’m sure Stella and the adidas executives will not choose her if she doesn’t fit to the brand.

As for the me, as a very loyal adidas fan. I’m excited to see Caroline wear stella’s designs during the US Open. I’m sure she will do well.

I also do hope that adidas will be able to convince her, verdasco and grigor dimitrov to use their rackets because I’m sure it will be a very good marketing ploy that will make Nike and others scratch their head.

  8. 2009 Wimbledon, 2nd round:

Caroline Wozniacki vs. Maria Kirilenko 6-0, 6-4

Kirilenko played in an adidas by Stella McCartney outfit. But next time they meet it will be Wozniacki playing in an adidas by Stella McCartney outfit.

  9. Well, I think Caroline have done a great job so far showing off the Stella McCartney dress at the US OPEN. Semi-final s far.

    Money well spend!! 🙂

  10. Yeah, Stella’s dress really got noticed this time. Although the feedback was not entirely positive. Myself, I like it, but I prefer how Stella looks on Maria nevertheless.
