Ana Ivanovic

Ana Ivanovic‘s career is constantly going up and down, with longer down periods though. The 2008 French Open champion’s revival suffered another setback as she lost in the quarterfinals of the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open.

It was in exactly an hour that fourth-seeded Ivanovic lost 6-3 6-1 to eighth seed Julia Goerges, whom she defeated last week en route to the Generali Ladies Linz title.

Nevertheless, Ivanovic will enjoy the fact that in these two weeks she achieved her longest winning streak in straight set matches – with seven successive straight set victories. In addition, she is projected to move from No.26 to No.24 in the rankings. (photo: © Neal Trousdale)

  1. I give Ana a big pass. She was tired from playing so much the past week. She even admitted as much on facebook. Secondly, Julia Goerges played fantastic tennis. Serve was unbelievable and she hit some amazing shots. Most players would of had lost to Goerges today with the way she was playing.

It’s been a great few weeks and last couple of months for Ana. Looking forward to Bali. Hoping she can end the season with another title. If she wins Bali, she will finish the year ranked inside the top 20. That would be awesome. Ajde! 🙂

  2. Curtis is right…Ana played something like 10 matches in 10 days and then doubles in Luxembourg and five straight tournaments three which were all the way in Asia. She is exhausted! JJ was able to pull it off (Beijing, Moscow, Stuttgart) in a row, but that was when she was in top form. Ana is still far, far from it. In key moments she still has problems tossing the ball which is an issue.

Marija, you make it seem more dramatic than it really is. I don’t look at this defeat as a “setback” as she has been playing well recently, winning matches, regaining confidence. Yes, she is not playing her best tennis just yet, but soon enough I hope she does! I would really like to see her be more consistent and get far in Bali and the AO!

  3. I agree with Curtis and bb. Ana looked so exhausted in the second round match against Arantxa Parra Santonja and after that match she has played doubles with Wickmayer. She accepted playing doubles before she has accepted WC for Linz. Anyway congrats to Julia. I hope that Ana will continue to train hard and that next year she will be again top ten player and win some big tournaments.
