Besides the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships in Dubai which took most of the spotlight with its strong field, two more tournaments were taking place at the same time and Magdalena Rybarikova and Lourdes Dominguez Lino clinched titles over the weekend.

The unseeded Rybarikova of Slovakia didn’t have to play the whole match to win the title at the Cellular South Cup in Memphis, as her opponent, sixth seed Rebecca Marino, retired with left abdominal injury after losing the first set 6-2 in just 27 minutes. It’s an unfortunate outcome for the world No.80 Marino’s first ever WTA final. The 105th-ranked Rybarikova is celebrating her second title win (her first came in Birmingham in 2009) and her perfect 2-0 record in finals.

The other International-level event of the week, XIX Copa BBVA Colsanitas, was unfolding in Bogota and a familiar face there went all the way to the title. The 29-year-old Dominguez Lino of Spain, ranked 77th in the world, defeated first-time finalist Mathilde Johansson 2-6 6-3 6-2. Dominguez Lino came to Bogota with one WTA singles title to her name, won in the very same city five years earlier. In addition, one of Dominguez Lino’s two career runner-up appearances was in Bogota as well (it was in 2005, a year prior to her maiden title).
