The pain from the ankle injury is still present, but Kim Clijsters‘ determination is overpowering it, and the Belgian has confirmed her participation at the 2011 French Open.
The advantage is that I still have the spirit of the past Grand Slam tournaments. If I play well, I can win. Attitude is very important, even though the situation is physically very different.
The second-ranked Clijsters sustained the injury at her cousin’s wedding in April and hasn’t played competitive tennis since. She resumed training earlier this month and the French Open will be her first event after the injury. However, we shouldn’t worry for Clijsters, she’s a master of comebacks.
Everything is going well. I am hitting the ball well. I still feel a little bit of pain in the ankle, but I have a tight bandage on it and that helps me.
In 2001 and 2003 Clijsters played the final of Roland Garros. The first one she lost to Jennifer Capriati and the second to Justine Henin. (photo: sr_cranks)
She will have her ankle taped, ESPN also did an article on it.
@ pinky: yup ESPN did an article on t. but i was waiting for marija to put it here as well…
@ marija: thx for putting up the news here. not this one only but for all the others as well. its really a very nice forum to discuss our views of the things are going on in the tennis world.
Keeping my fingers crossed for kim to do well at RG. and i hope that her injury doesnt bother her anymore….
also if she performs well at RG she will very soon take over the top spot from Wozniaki…
Hey M, been following your blog for a few years now – was hoping you’d check out my brand new one, not exclusively about tennis, but nevertheless.
This is good news, although I don’t think that she’s have a big chance at RG when not fully fit. I don’t underestimate her though, but still, there will be opponents who seeing her ankle is hurt WILL try to make her run a lot… Ah well, there’s no mercy in a competition.
Kim is known for good movement which she uses a lot, and since this is clay… I don’t see her as threat eather. She’ll get through first few rounds, but in 4th round or quaters, she’ll be in trouble.
Go Kimi! If anyone could win the cup, than it’s you!!!!
Thanks M, appreciate the advice 🙂
I’ve been getting email updates of your blog for about as long as I can remember now, fantastically solid. Have a good day. A
Omair, thank you for the encouragement! 🙂
Aimee_iluvtennis, I’ve checked out your blog. I see you’ve been very productive in these two days! 🙂 Just keep it up! One of the hardest things about blogging is being able to persist.
Kim is experienced enough to know when she’s ready and how great her abilities are. I suppose she has a good plan, she wouldn’t play just in order to show up.
Aimee_iluvtennis, wow great to hear that. I’ve subscribed to your blog as well. 😉
