Nike has officially become the clothing sponsor of Sabine Lisicki. The German used to wear Adidas, but they decided not to renew the contract (possibly because of her long absence due to an ankle injury).
Nike broke the news on Facebook:
The 21-year-old Lisicki won her maiden WTA title at Charleston 2009, climbed from No.63 to No.43 in the rankings, and later, in August, reached a career-high of No.22. However, her ranking dropped significantly after an injury-hit 2010 season, which she finished ranked 179th.
Lisicki had a very successful 2011 grasscourt season, with the title at Birmingham and Wimbledon semifinals. On hard courts this summer, the German made semifinals at Stanford and quarterfinals at Carlsbad, but she lost in the first round of the most recent Cincinnati. On August 8, 2001 Lisicki improved her career-high and now it is No.21. (via DeShawn Besabella)
Great news! I love Lisicki! She’s such a fighter and a very strong woman! Did Radwanska already contract some clothing sponsor by the way?
Great move on Nike’s part. I hope Sabine held out for really big bucks. She should be in the top 10 in 2012. After Maria, she is the prettiest, nicest and best model in the WTA. Opps, almost forgot about Andrea!!
Liz, I still haven’t heard any mention of Radwanska’s clothing sponsor.
Liz, Radwanska is getting sponsored next year 🙂 I am actually so happy she got rid of her father from her team 😀 Best decision she will probably ever make, career wise!
Sam, do you know who will be her sponsor?
Great news for our golden german girl.
Greetz from germany!!
@Sam, that’s great news 🙂 imo it’s sad that someone who’s in the top 15 for so long still needs to cover their labels and plays in some mixedbranded outfit 😛 And you’re absolutely right about her father!
