After her fourth tournament of 2012, Agnieszka Radwanska has remained undefeated this year by any other player except for world No.1 Victoria Azarenka, having eliminated Julia Goerges in the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title. The Dubai title is Radwanska’s eighth and will move her to career-best ranking of No.5.

In both sets Radwanska was the first to take a lead, 4-2 in the first set and 4-1 in the second, and even though on both occasions Goerges managed to come close, it was Radwanska’s final say and she finished the match 7-5 6-4 in one hour and 44 minutes.

En route to the Premier-level trophy, the fifth-seeded Radwanska survived qualifier Aleskandra Wozniak in the first round, for her 300th career win, then she beat Shahar Peer, ninth seed Sabine Lisicki, eighth seed Jelena Jankovic, and finally Goerges, who sent home the recent world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki in the semis. 1. A great win for Radwanska, but a good week also for Goerges who put in some great performances during the week. She didn’t play her best tennis today, but it was a highly respectable scoreline compared to the heavy thrashing she received in their last encounter at this year’s Australian Open.

It is interesting to see Radwanska has taken a wildcard into Kuala Lumpur next week. I assume this is an attempt to win easy ranking points and to overtake Wozniacki in the rankings…

I too was surprised to see Radwanska going for Kualalumpur. I think she should not overplay and should take a rest to get herself prepared for the Indiana Wells an Miami, she can grab a lot of points with a good showing there. I fear that she might get herself injured.
Let us hope she does not.

  3. Radwanska trails Wozniacki 420 points. Wozniacki has Indian Wells title points to defend, while Radwanska lost in the round of 16, so Radwanska has quite an advantage. If Radwanska manages to win KL, she will get 280 points.
