The Wimbledon first-rounder between Bethanie Mattek Sands and seventh seed Angelique Kerber was marked with an upset alert flag due to the American’s recent form, but the last year’s semifinalist made the second round in straight sets, 6-3 6-4. As her husband Justin was supporting her from the stands wearing a shirt with her @BMattek Twitter handle, Mattek Sands hit 26 winners and the same number of unforced errors, while her opponent’s differential was +11, with 15 winners to four unforced errors.
The match was supposed to be historic as it was announced that Mattek Sands would wear computerized eyewear Google Glass, which would have made her the first professional athlete to sports such gear in a competitive encounter, but the wild-fashion lover showed up on the court without the accessory. We still don’t know why she gave up on the initial plan. Maybe Wimbledon officials eventually didn’t allow her to use something that could potentially give her competitive advantage?

Moreover, the American partially covered her crazy rainbow hair with a cap. Other than her hair color, her entire look was perfectly Wimbledon compliant – everything was white, with her signature knee-high socks and tattoos giving extra edge to the entire look. Remember that two years ago at Wimbledon Bethanie wore a jacket accessorized with white tennis balls?
