Today on the Arthur Ashe Stadium, seventh-seeded Petra Kvitova survived her match against Misaki Doi 6-2 3-6 6-1 and progressed into the second round of the US Open. The match lasted almost two hours. The Czech won the first set with ease, in the second set her inconsistent play allowed Misaki to take over, but in the third Kvitova regrouped and overcame her opponent.
The day was great for Serbian players Ana Ivanovic and Bojana Jovanovski. Ivanovic stormed through her match with Georgian Anna Tatishvili in under an hour, 6-2 6-0. They were both in their game, but Ivanovic played her best till the end, which only showed Tatishvili’s lack of luck in the draw. Ivanovic’s best result at the US Open was quarterfinal in 2012, while Tatishvili reached the fourth round the same year. Jovanovski also played well in her match against Andrea Petkovic and beat the German 6-2 6-4 with ease in 88 minutes. So far Jovanovski’s best US Open appearance is last year’s second round and this year Kvitova is awaiting her at that stage of the tournament, so we’ll see if the Serb will manage to improve her record at the US Open in her first career meeting with the tenth-ranked Czech.
