Three seeds were in action in Seoul today and two of them fell in the second round. The only seed that passed into the quarterfinals of the KDB Korea Open so far has been third-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia who eliminated Ye-Ra Lee of Korea, ranked 450th, 6-4 6-1. Pavlyuchenkova had some troubles in the beginning of the first set as she found herself 4-1 behind, but then managed to recover and breeze through the rest of the match.

The other two seeds in action, seed No.6 Julia Georges and seed No.8 Annika Beck weren’t so lucky. Irina-Camelia Begu stunned the sixth-seeded Georges by winning nine straight games, after falling behind 3-4, and closed the match 6-4 6-0. Vera Dushevina of Russia, ranked 125th, ousted the eight-seeded Beck 6-3 7-5 in one hour and 37 minutes, hitting 10 aces on the way.

In other matches, Francesca Schiavone of Italy won over Virginie Razzano of France in a three-set thriller that lasted two hours and 41 minutes, 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3. The two have met five times in their careers, and all the meetings were won by Schiavone. Lara Arruabarrena eliminated Alexandra Dulgheru in a match that lasted just over two hours, 6-1 3-6 6-4.

Three more matches of the second round will be played on Thursday. Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska will face Estrella Cabeza Candela, second seed Maria Kirilenko will play Kimiko Date-Krumm and wildcard Su Jeong Jang will meet qualifier Ons Jabeur. (photo: © Neal Trousdale)
