Sabine Lisicki advances into the second round of the HP Open


Seed No.2 Sabine Lisicki beat 80th-ranked Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa for the second time this year and advanced into the second round of the HP Open in one hour and 44 minutes, 7-5 7-6(1). The two of them had met in Beijing, when Lisicki eliminated Scheepers much easier 6-3 6-2.

As for the other first-round matches that took place on Tuesday, ninth-seeded Kristina Mladenovic defeated 274th-ranked Aleksandra Wozniak in one hour and 54 minutes 7-6(4) 6-4, Zheng Jie eliminated Sharon Fichman in just over an hour 6-2 6-1, seed No.6 Madison Keys beat Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia 6-3 6-2, Zhang Shuai defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 6-0 6-3, Polona Hercog beat Petra Cetkovska 6-4 5-7 6-1, 94th-ranked Vania King ousted 31st-ranked Flavia Pennetta in two hours and 15 minutes 3-6 7-5 6-0, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova beat Hsieh Su-Wei in one hour and 18 minutes 6-2 6-2, Japan’s No.1 Kimiko Date-Krumm eliminated seventh seed Laura Robson 6-4 6-4, Luksika Kumkhum defeated Ayumi Morita 6-2 6-1 and 279th-ranked Belinda Bencic made the biggest upset by beating 76th-ranked Lauren Davis 6-3 7-5.

Meanwhile, the first-round action was also finished at the Generali Ladies Linz with the following results: third seed Ana Ivanovic defeated Yanina Wickmayer 6-2 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes, Andrea Petkovic defeated Yvonne Meusberger 6-3 7-5, fourth seed Carla Suarez Navarro beat Kristyna Pliskova 6-2 6-3, Camila Giorgi stunned Julia Georges in just one hour 6-2 6-3, seed No.5 Kirsten Flipkens beat Donna Vekic 2-6 6-2 6-2, seventh seed Dominika Cibulkova pushed through by eliminating Annika Beck 3-6 6-2 6-1, 158th-ranked Katarzyna Piter of Poland stunned Irina-Camelia Begu in three sets 6-2 4-6 6-3 and Maryna Zanevska beat Aleksandra Krunic 7-5 2-6 6-2.
