I logged in to Twitter this morning and the first thing I saw was a retweet from Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with shocking news that Nadia Petrova’s mother Nadezhda Ilyina, 64, died in a car crash on Saturday, December 7th. There still are no further details about where and when the accident happened.
Petrova’s mother was also a world-class athlete. She won a bronze medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics in the 400 meter relay.
Condolences to Nadia and her family.
This is so sad, what can be worse than losing your mother.
So sorry about this. She accompanied Nadia everywhere and seemed such a nice lady. Plus was a good athlete in Soviet times.
