Women’s Tennis Blog is reporting straight from Dubai, bringing you all the action from the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2014.

The Dubai Tennis Stadium was busy with plenty of action today, starting off with a shortened appearance by the freshly-crowned Doha champion Simona Halep. The Romanian had to retire midway through her match against Alize Cornet with a achilles inflammation.

Later in the afternoon, the battle of the blondes excited the crowd as Caroline Wozniacki faced off against Sabine Lisicki. After losing the first set, the former Dubai champion pulled through as Lisicki was unable to advance, despite being cheered on by both Martina Hingis and her boyfriend Oliver Pocher.

Even though she made an early exit in Dubai, the young German still found time to charm the media afterwards, leaving Dubai with a smile on her face.

The first evening match proved to be the highlight of the day as Ana Ivanovic & Angelique Kerber played a three-set thriller that ended with a spectacular tiebreak decider in favor of the Serbian crowd favorite.

Last but certainly not least, Serena Williams took the stage as the world #1 started her Dubai campaign against Ekaterina Makarova. Some rusty play in the first set was followed by a smashed racket as Williams needed to blow off some steam, cruising to a swift two-set win afterwards.

  1. Love the gallery! Especially the smiles of today’s losers Halep and Lisicki. The close-up of Serena’s racquet is also great! And I like it that you’re taking photos of the stands and behind the scenes as well! Excellent job! I also suggest everyone to follow you on Twitter as well, for live action: https://twitter.com/JJlovesTennis

  3. Great gallery of pic’s! Made me feel like I was there myself :o) … Agree with u2 Marija, sweet to see smiles on the ‘losers’ faces – Simona & Sabine are really charming young ladies & set a great example – both winners in my eyes ;o) PS: Hingis coaching Sabine is an awesome combo!!!

  4. JohnnyB, PeteTweet, when I read the tweets of Jimmie48 I feel like I’m there! I’m really amazed by his dedication. And his popularity is growing! 🙂 Today he got quite a few retweets for this photo of Sara Errani.
